Abstract

The low understanding of students regarding the concept of energy can be seen when students are given various physics problems. Most of the students when given physics problems on work and energy materials and asked to present them in various representations seem very difficult to solve them. Therefore, the researcher conducted this research with the aim of knowing the mastery of understanding the concept of energy in solving various physics problems in Basic Physics lectures. The limitation of this research is how students understand in applying the concept of energy to work and energy material. The method used in this study is a quantitative descriptive method in which this method is used to analyze data and tabulate student grades. The findings of this study indicate that the ability of students to describe the basic understanding of the concept of energy is 69%, the ability of students to solve problems using the graphical method is 32%, the ability of students to calculate using mathematical equations is 72%, the ability of students to show steps for working on problems solving is 82%, students’ ability to use the concept of energy in calculation problems and daily life applications is 49%. So it can be concluded that overall, students tend to experience difficulties in applying the concept of energy to the graphical method and the useof the concept of energy in calculation problems and daily life applications.
